Captain Robert Walton, an explorer obsessed with a manic quest to reach the North Pole at all costs, encounters Dr. Victor Frankenstein in the Arctic wilderness, pursued by a mysterious humanoid creature.

Upon learning of the captain's purpose, Frankenstein tells him his sad and creepy story. As a young boy, Victor became interested in science.
